Former England playmaker Mike Catt believes that the Jonny Wilkinson-Shane Geraghty combination has the potential to give England the direction and thrust they need in midfield.
Catt should know, given that he not only helped to bring the best out of Wilkinson when they occupied those pivotal positions themselves for England, but he also mentored Geraghty at London Irish before the player moved to Northampton in the summer.

“There’s no reason why they can’t make it a success,” the London Irish player-coach said on Tuesday. “They are both decision-makers, both comfortable with ball in hand, both good kickers with a left-right option, all of which helps keep defenders guessing.”

Catt feels that the return to fitness and form of Wilkinson is a real boost to Martin Johnson’s England and will help provide a steadying influence on Geraghty.
