England World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson is to guest edit a special edition of free weekly magazine Sport for the start of the Six Nations rugby union tournament next week. The issue, which comes out a day ahead of the opening matches on 5 February, includes pieces on Wilkinson’s all-time sporting heroes, favourite films and gadgets. He cites Boris Becker, for his “never-give-up attitude”, independent film Napoleon Dynamite and Apple’s iPods among his favourites. Wilkinson, who plays his rugby for French side Toulon, worked with Sport deputy editor Tony Hodson to come up with the content for the issue. “When I was asked to guest-edit Sport ahead of this year’s Six Nations, I was honoured but a little apprehensive,” said Wilkinson. “I’ve done many interviews over the course of my career but it seems a difficult skill to turn sports previews and opinion into an engaging read.” The issue will also see Wilkinson talk about the Six Nations tournament and players to watch. There will be a “scrapbook” of memorable career images and advice on how to kick the perfect drop goal. He will also write the comment page, which is usually penned by editor Simon Caney. |
